The first case of COVID-19 in America was reported 279 days ago on 1/21/2020.
Yesterday, on one day, October 27, 2020, the country reported 73,240 new confirmed Covid-19 cases and 985 Covid-19 deaths. On October 27, 2020... During those 279 days ...8.8 million Covid-19 cases and counting...227,000 Covid-19 deaths and counting. 279 days of an Idiot president sacrificing Americans for his re-election chances. Leadership you say? Then, on October 28, 2020... America is averaging 70,000 Coronavirus cases A DAY, which is a higher daily average than this summer when the pandemic was at its peak(?) in America! In the meantime, dummy-in-chief continues to say, "We are making a turn. Coronavirus is going away." And there are those who will believe him at their and their family's physical peril. donald trump=Lying Deadly Lack of Leadership. And then, on October 29, 2020... America hit a record 88,000 new Coronavirus cases today, the most cases ever in the history of the pandemic. Unfortunately, Coronavirus deaths follow shortly after the cases. Bottom line, through his ineptness, through his callousness, through his ignorance, through his malfeasance, and through his nonfeasance, donald trump is an accessory to murder. Republicants are a hypocritical mess. Prior to the pandemic and the cratering of America's leadership-challenged and integrity-challenged and America's accessory-to-deaths president, Republicants were singing the praises of said nitwit president. They talked how they would "work to continue president trump programs and the trump economy." Now that they have internalized how people are turning out to vote for Joe Biden and against the incompetent one--2 for 1--Republicants are changing their "campaign tunes" and are now talking about how much they want to "cross the aisle" and work with Democrats For The People. ITS TOO LATE. A hypocritical Republicant is nothing but a hypocritical Republicant, and THEY do not change. Like Rachel Maddow says, "Watch what they do, NOT what they say."

   Art Republic "officially" unveiled the "Lift Every Voice" murals last night on the Forsyth Street side of the Jessie Ball duPont Fund Center (formerly the Haydon Burns library). It is an honor to have my image in one of the murals, and it was an honor to speak last night. Although I am appreciative and humble that my image is there, my image is symbolic and representative of those young Black people in Jacksonville who disregarded physical peril by participating in the 1960 lunch counter sit-ins demonstrations to fight Racism, and to "sit" for their Black Human Dignity and Respect. And though attacked downtown on that August 27, 1960 by 200 White Racist thugs, to a person, WE would all do it again. It is a priceless personal honor to share a public mural with Mr. Rutledge Henry Pearson-my Junior High school (Isaiah Blocker Junior High) American History teacher, my Junior High school Civics teacher...the adviser to the1959-1961 Jacksonville Youth Council NAACP when I was President and was one of the leaders of the 1960 lunch counter sit-ins...and my Mentor. There are 3 murals-one mural is Zora Neale Hurston and Ebony Payne-English...one mural is Eartha M. M. White and Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole...and the third is me and Mr. Pearson. It was also priceless for my son, Rodney Hurst II, to introduce me last night as one of the speakers for the unveiling. I, in turn, officially introduced my great-granddaughter, Miss Everly Ann Dorrell, to Jacksonville last night. It was her debut. All in all, it was a grand evening. Thank you Jessica Santiago and Art Republic...thank you Mari Kuraishi and the Jessie Ball duPont Fund...thank you Muralist Artist Celso...thank you Photographer Artist, Videographer, and Video Director Christopher Parsons ...thank you to all of the artists, involved with this awesome project...and thank you to my family and friends, who were there last night to share with me. And all because White America wanted and needed a card-carrying Racist in the White House "on the rebound" from 8 quality years of a Black President. Well you got him, Racism, Sexism, Incompetence...and All. Needless deaths, lives destroyed, and the toll of an immeasurable "Misery index." You showed us, White America. Did you ever. ***There were 83,000-83,000!-DAMN NEW CASES of the Coronavirus/Covid-19/trumpvirus in America last week---the Highest one day number of cases ever. When donald trump, America's Ignorant, Immoral, Incompetent, Inadequate president does not take a deadly pandemic seriously...and gives NO leadership to THIS medical crisis of our lifetime...THIS is what you get ---8,500,000 cases...225,000 deaths. Notwithstanding all of his scandals, and his total lack of leadership, donald trump is a Racist president who knows how to appeal to a Racist element of this country and can still be re-elected...all because he is a Racist and he has a cult of Racist followers who hang on each of his disgusting words. They do not have the sense to realize he gives less than a tinker's damn about them...just their votes. And in return, they say in effect, "To hell with the Coronavirus and the masks and the safe distance, give US trump." They truly deserve each other. I have said from sometime now, "YOU CANNOT USE JACKSONVILLE AND PROGRESSIVE IN THE SAME SENTENCE", I have also posted that on Facebook. And as expected, I received “pro and con” comments from my Facebook Friends. From “I know many Progressives in Jacksonville” to “Jacksonville is not as bad as some other places I know” to “I could not disagree with you more.”
So, Lets unpack: 1) I did not post MY comments asking for your support or your blessings or your agreement. I could give let’s than a Tinker’s Damn if you agree with me that Jacksonville is NOT Progressive. 2) I do not work for the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, so it is not my responsibility to be a Jacksonville Cheerleader. 3) Jacksonville is still very much Racist and even with a Pro Football team. I see very few changes in that. 4) Jacksonville’s religious community both Black and White are as passive and non-threatening as other White folks and Black folks in the Jacksonville community, and they act as if they just found out Jesus Christ was crucified. I don’t know if some of them who believe in the Bible, internalized that Jesus also arose from the dead. But that is how "un-engaged" they are with what is happening in Jacksonville. Speaking out against Racism and For Civil Rights and Against Police Brutality and For Equality...Not From My Pulpit! But let someone give out "pennies" as offerings to FIGHT CRIME and they are the first ones in line with their hands out, as if they are law enforcement officers. 5) Many Blacks in Jacksonville who should know better, have taken a Go-Along-to-Get-Along posture as if speaking out against Injustice and Police Brutality and Racism will sour their “good” relationships with their White Friends. Not only is being quiet a sign of complicity, but saying nothing will not make Racism disappear. 6) Jacksonville still refuses to have real conversations about Racism because those conversations make Whites in Jacksonville and Blacks in Jacksonville, Uncomfortable. Whites in Jacksonville ALWAYS want to tell me what THEY think is best for me. I call it “The White Expert on Black Folks Syndrome.” And they get their feelings hurt when I tell them to “Throw that stupid sh*t out of the window.” Then Black folks go along with the “White Experts” as if that is a way to make peace. White Experts, like White Privilege and White Racism is a White Arrogant Lifestyle which has permeated Jacksonville since time Immemorial. Fairness...Equality...and Civil Rights...are not even footnotes in Jacksonville’s history and its conversations...and you have Blacks in Jacksonville who would dare say, “I know a lot of White Progressives in Jacksonville." Well Whoop-De-Doo. You must keep them hidden. WE can join hands and sing... have prayer vigils... rally around art... go to luncheons and dinners ... have your study circles about Racism...and visit each other's churches all you want...all a “contribution to Progressiveness," but if you think that is ALL that is necessary to call yourself a Progressive, you are only fooling Yourselves and Blacks who do not know any better. Jacksonville is still Jacksonville...with its feet in 2019...and its head in the 1950’s and the 1960’s ... and IS STILL not Progressive. Jacksonville is the home of my birth and my late wife’s birth and my children's birth and my grandchildren's birth and my great grandchild's birth and many of my friends' place of birth. I went to school in Jacksonville...I attend church in Jacksonville and I fight Racism (and fought Racism) in Jacksonville. I reserve the right to Criticize Jacksonville Whenever I want and Wherever I want, until Jacksonville does better...and that is With or Without your help. And I certainly do not need your approval or blessings. The Struggle Continues! WHITE AMERICA CONTINUES TO SAY, "Prove there is Racism." Let me submit this one example of the Many.
This White policeman killed George Floyd with impunity by kneeling on his neck and suffocating him. He was caught on tape and by all indications the police murderer knew he was being taped, and killed Floyd anyway. It is called "with malice aforethought." He was charged with 2nd degree murder. The police murderer was allowed bail for his 2nd degree murder. Now the judge in the case has allowed the murderer to leave the state "for his safety." Safety...as a cold-blooded killer? Imagine a White judge giving a Black defendant Anything close to this "sweetheart deal." White skin=White Privilege & White Racism in AmeriKKKa. Just one case of the egregiously many. An Honor for me to be featured with Mr. Rutledge Henry Pearson, my "American History" Class teacher, my "Civics" Class teacher, the adviser to the Jacksonville Youth Council NAACP during the 1960 sit-ins and Ax Handle Saturday when I was President of the Youth Council NAACP, and my mentor. I also had the honor to submit Mr. Pearson's name for the Florida Civil Rights Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 2016. Thank you Art Republic, thank you Jessie Ball duPont Fund Center, and thank you to the Fantastically Talented Artist, Celso. To share this space with my mentor, Mr. Rutledge Henry Pearson... PRICELESS. Art Republic... Rutledge Pearson was an educator, civil rights leader and human rights activist. He was also a notable baseball player in his early years. Pearson played for the 1952 New York Black Yankees of the Negro League and he would have played professional baseball in the Major League with the Jacksonville Beach Seabirds but park officials decided they’d rather close the park then allow him to play. This event changed his life and from then on he dedicated his life to the struggle for human dignity and respect. He was featured on the cover of JET magazine on April 20, 1964, with the headline: "Former Baseball Star Leads Jacksonville Civil Rights Struggle." The article states that he was very influential in recruiting members of the NAACP citing that in just two years he was able to drive membership from a few hundred to over 2,000. Rodney Lawrence Hurst, Sr. is a civil rights activist, a Black historian, and the author of two award-winning books--It was never about a hot dog and a Coke®! A personal account of the 1960 sit-in demonstrations in Jacksonville, Florida and Ax Handle Saturday. His second book, Unless WE Tell It...It Never Gets Told" gives insight into Jacksonville's Black History and those Blacks who not only impacted Jacksonville and the State of Florida, but this nation as well. His third book, "Never Forget Who You Are: Conversations About Racism and Identity Development" which he co-authored with Dr. Rudy F. Jamison Jr. was released last month. It was never about a hot dog and a Coke®! recounts with clarity the segregated civic, the segregated political, and the segregated educational climate of Jacksonville Florida in the 1950’s and the 1960’s. Hurt was the sixteen-year-old President of the Jacksonville Youth Council NAACP and was one of the leaders of the 1960 sit-in demonstrations. These two courageous men change the trajectory of not only Jacksonville but civil rights in the South. It is our honor to have the world renowned artist, @celsoart memorialize these local legends in a #newmonument (The artist Celso stands in fromt of his most recent Mosaic Mural of Rodney L. Hurst, and Mr. Rutledge Henry Pearson, Civil Rights Icon, and Hurst's mentor.  donald trump's LIES HAVE COST TENS OF THOUSANDS OF AMERICAN LIVES. His lies were front and center on his joke of a town hall that NBC "generously" gave him last night on television. Why? Ratings? God only knows.
donald trump wants to do away with the health care lifeline---ObamaCare/The Affordable Care Act---which has been a lifesaver for millions of Americans. And why does he want to do away with healthcare called by many, ObamaCare? Because it was was one of the signal accomplishments of Black President Barack Obama. An accomplishment which has saved millions of Americans from financial ruin. When it comes to President Obama, donald trump's Racist stripes are all over the place. Such a Racist illiterate. Yet he was who and what White America wanted to lead America. Be careful what you wish for...and vote for. It can be deadly to you health. The Struggle Continues! You wanted to make sure we were never heard and rarely seen by writing your founding documents to exclude an entire race of people based on the color of their skin, a race of people which you did not consider human. You did this with the full-throated support and connivance of White American Christians and the White Christian community. ALL White Religious denominations in this new country, founded in part on Religious freedom, supported this enslavement way of life. You and the White Christian Church, mercilessly worked these dark hue of skin persons as a “free labor economy.” These millions of "laborers" made you obscenely wealthy and you did not have to pay them. You developed the American Christian Holocaust called slavery which “birthed” Racism, and All from your twisted and reviled Christian mind which simply ignored Biblical teachings, as the cornerstone of the founding of this “new” Country. American Christianity supported and was a partner in America’s Original Sin. After slavery made you quite wealthy in every aspect of American life, you still needed more. You could not envision ever giving up these “enslaved persons” who you “owned,” and who made you rich beyond your wildest dreams. So one half of you in this country decided to try and overthrow the other half of this country to continue to feed your vile and greedy pleasures as owners of enslaved persons. Imagine that Christian White America? Fighting a war to keep a race of people in chains to feed your peccadilloes. When you lost, you would not acknowledge the toll of the people you enslaved, and refused to “pay” them for the centuries of abuse you layered on them and the wages you stole from them, under the guise of Christianity. You continued to elect Racists in presidential clothing, many of whom were Klan members in suits. Racism, and keeping your foot on the neck of Black America literally and figuratively is what you have known and what you have lived by. And that brings us to today. You elected a White Racist incompetent with no character as president to answer to 8 years of a Black dignified President with character. In your Racist mind you knew “your” new president would try and do as his slogan reads, “Make America Great Again” which for you meant putting Niggers in their place...again. And even if he could not, you knew he was publicly trying. But donald trump did not elect himself. YOU voted for him. WE did not. Funny how that works. You, White America now are going through a hand wringing bit trying to imply you have a social conscience and social justice is the order of the day. Yet at least 1/3 of White America still does not have a social conscience, 1/3 of White America still does not give a damn about social justice, and 1/3 of White America sees my Black hue of skin as cause to call me a Nigger, which means 1/3 of White American does not give a damn about me. Funny how that Christian thing is still hanging around as this 1/3 continues to support a Racist in the White House. Lines are clearly defined in this upcoming presidential election more so than they have ever been in this country. donald trump is a Racist who wears a suit instead of a robe. donald trump appeals to at least 1/3 of you in White America, who are “out of the closet” practicing Racists. Others of you are still "camouflaged." When the Racist smoke clears, will White America do what is right, or will White America, once again, do what is politically expedient? I will not hold my breath. Quite frankly, I do not expect much. White America will again vote for the Racist president based on White America’s Racist roots. The White media will mumble something about Whites are angry and never say trump is a Racist and his supporters are Racist. The White Clergy will not say a word. They will however call for a prayer vigil, with masks and gloves while singing the "no-meaning" flavor of the month Christian song. Liberal and Progressive Whites will gravitate to “seeing about” abused animals before they deal with their Racism, and will say and do absolutely nothing. It is called "talking a good game." In other words, business as usual in Racist White America. Why should I expect any difference? The Struggle Continues! |
